Online masters, doctorate and Ph.D. degrees in physical therapy, physiotherapy and rehabilitation science from accredited universities and colleges.
Physical therapists provide services that help restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease. They restore, maintain, and promote overall fi tness and health. Their patients include accident victims and individuals with disabling conditions such as low-back pain, arthritis, heart disease, fractures, head injuries, and cerebral palsy.
Physical therapists often consult and practice with a variety of other professionals, such as physicians, dentists, nurses, educators, social workers, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and audiologists. Some physical therapists treat a wide range of ailments; others specialize in areas such as pediatrics, geriatrics, orthopedics, sports medicine, neurology, and cardiopulmonary physical therapy.
All States require physical therapists to pass a licensure exam before they can practice, after graduating from an accredited physical therapist educational program. Although an associate's degree is sometimes enough for entry-level positions, a bachelor's or master's is strongly recommended for those who want to make this a full-time career. Physical therapy degree programs cover basic courses like social sciences, mathematics, anatomy, biology, chemistry, and physics. Subjects specific to physical therapy include biomechanics, neuro-anatomy, human growth and development, manifestations of disease, examination techniques, and therapeutic procedures.
The median salary of a physical therapist is around $60,000, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Increasingly, physical therapy degree holders have begun finding work in less traditional settings, such as alternative medicine facilities, rehabilitation centers, and orthopedic centers. Demand for those with physical therapy training will rise as the healthcare industry continues to expand.
